Our

Story

We are 19th Prestwich St. Andrew's Scout Group, in other words, a fantastic opportunity. We provide fun, challenge and adventure for all of our sections - including the Beavers, Cubs and of course, the infamous Scouts!

But who are we? How did we begin?

Who we are:

19th Prestwich has a proud history, dating back to our opening in 1949! We moved in to the old Rainsough Schoolhouse and opened to the public in 1941, and has been continuously running for 77 years! Of course, we have had challenges along the way, but we have overcome them to become one of the most successful, award-winning and ambitious Scout Groups in the District! Nothing has stopped us from growing and adventuring, and in these recent years we have welcomed more friendly faces than ever before, with our group's member count expanding rapidly.

We meet in Rainsough Community Centre on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays for an hour and a half. We love to participate in many various activities inside and outside meetings, including camping, climbing, orienteering, pioneering, acting, cooking, football tournaments, ice skating and even the design of this website... Our trained, specialist volunteers are committed to giving equal chances to everyone and do the best they can to make great and engaging programmes, packed full with games and educational badgework. We have grown so strong and popular with the community, doing our bit to educate youth and help the environment. Plus, not only are we a charity ourselves, but we also do our best working with other charities and clubs, all going towards the 'Social Status' of our Prestwich area...

19th Prestwich is part of the PRaWs Scouting District (Prestwich, Radcliffe and Whitefield) and the GMN Scout County (Greater Manchester North)! These UK Scouting areas, made up of a combination of different Scout Groups across the city, are very active and often meet most nights of the week - with Manchester having over 5,000 members aged 6-25yrs, and find it good to use 'active learning', teaching the young people of today through a course of practical action, as it has worked on many occasions, with useful knowledge and skills staying with our members for life...

Our History

We moved in to the Den 70 years ago, which was previously the old Rainsough School House. Since then, we have developed, undertaking new leadership years later, and become one of the 5 surviving groups of Prestwich.

We'd love to meet new faces and share our incredible experiences and life-long skills with an even larger community - so please don't hesitate to contact us if you would like to join, know about vacancies or if you think you would make a good volunteer leader.
